AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE
ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL CODE BY
ADDING TO CH A P T E R 5 OF
TITLE XII THEREOF A NEW
ARTICLE, NUMBERED 9, RE-
GARDING ILLUMINATON WITH-
IN RESTAURANTS AND TAV-
ERNS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALA -
MEDA as follows:
SECTION l.. That a new article,
numbered 9, be, and is hereby added
to Chapter 5 of Title XII of the Ala-
meda Municipal Code, which article
shall be entitled and composed of
tiectlons as follows:
Article 9. Restaurants and Taverne
Sec. 12 -591. Lighting Where Food
and Beverages Served. All rooms in
which food or beverages are served
iplust be provided with artificial
light sources equivalent to at least
five- tenths (5/10) foot candle light
on a vertical plane at a distance of
five (5) feet from the floor as meas-
ured by a standard light meter;
and such artificial light sources
must be in use except when equiva-
lcnt natural light is present.

All rooms in which food is stored or
prepared, or in which utensils are
washed, inust be provided with arti-
ficial. light sources equivalent to at
Least ten (10) feet candle light at a
distance of thirty (30) inches from
the floor or working surface as
measured by a standard light meter;
and such artificial light sources
must be in use except when equiva-
lent natural light is present.
Sec. 12 -593. Location of Light
Control Switches. Artificial light
control switches shall be so located
that they will be inaccessible to pa-
trons.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall
be in full force and effect from and
after the expiration of thirty (39)
days from the date of its final pas-
sage.
