CITY OF ALAMEDA ORDINANCE NO. 1654
New Series
AMENDING THE ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL CODE BY AMEND-
ING SECTIONS 2-541 AND 2-547 THEREOF AND ADDING SEC-
TION 2-549 AND 2-549.1 THERETO, RELATING TO VACATION
AND SICK LEAVE ENTITLEMENT OF CERTAIN CLASSES OF
EMPLOYEES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ALAM EDA:
Section 1. That the last paragraph of Section 2-541 of the i
Alameda Municipal Code s hereby amended by changing the
straight time daily rate therein referred to from one-thirtieth
(1/30) to "one twenty-first and sixty-seven hundredths
(1/21.67))."
Section 2. That Section 2.547 of the Alameda Municipal
code is hereby amended to read:
Sec. 2-547. Illness in Immediate Family. Whenever any
officer or employee is compelled to be absent from duty
by reason or cleatri, or critical illness where death appears
to be imminent, of either father, mother, brother, sister,
husband, wife, child, grandchild, or a relative who lives
in the place of residence of such officer or employee, or
of the father or mother of the spouse of such officer or
employee, such officer or employee shall receive com-
pensation during such absence at the regular rate of pay
for time necessary to be absent: from work, not however,
to exceed three (3) working days in all: provided, that
the compensation herein provided to be paid shall be paid
only when the officer or employee absent shall furnish
satisfactory evidence of the facts justifying such absence.
Section 3. That Section 2-549 is hereby added to the Alameda
Municipal Code to read:
Sec. 2-549. Scheduling Vacations of Certain Employees.
Any employee referred to in Section 2-541, who occupies
a position with a six-month probationary period at entry
level, and who shall have been in the satisfactory service
of the City for more than six months but for less than one
year, may, with the written approval of his department
head, take a vacation with pay of: not exceeding one-half
the number of regularly scheduled working days he would
be entitled to by Section 2-541 if otherwise qualified there-
under. This provision is intended only to permit greater
flexibility in the scheduling of vacations of the employees
referred to, and shall in no case operate to grant more
vacation or vacation credit than set forth in Section 2-541
or otherwise in this Article. This section shall not apply
to part-time employees, or to sworn members of the Police
and Fire Departments.

Section 4. That Section 2 -549.1 is hereby added to the
Alameda Municipal Code to read:
Sec. 2- 549.1 Fire Department Members. Notwithstanding
the provisions of Sections 2-541 and 2 -545, this section.exclu-
sively shall apply to sworn members of : the Fire Depart-
ment, and its intent is to express vacation leave in terms
of duty shifts of such employees rather than in terms of
calendar weeks or working days. Such employees who work
a fifty -six (56) hour week shall be subject to the following
vacation leave with pay schedule:
Years 01' Service
(a) After one (1) and through
five (5) years
(b) Six (6) through fifteen
(15) years
(c) Sixteen (16) years and
thereafter
Annual Vacation
Leave Entitlement.
Six (6) Duty Shifts
Nine (9) Duty Shifts
Eleven (11) Duty Shifts, in
which six (6) Shifts may
be consecutive.
Section 5. Section 4 of this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect on January 1,1972.
Section. 6. Except as provided in Section 5 hereinabove,
this ordinance shall otherwise be in full force and effect after
the expiration of thirty (30) days from the date of its final
passage.
