AMENDING THE ALAMEDA
MUNICIPAL CODE By ADDING AR-
TICLE 3 to CHAPTER 3, TITLE 11,
THEREOF, CONSISTING OF SECTIONS 2-331 THROUGH 2-338, CREATING A HISTORICAL ADVISORY
COMMISSION AND PROVIDING FOR
MEMBERSHIP AND DUTIES
THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNcil Section 1. The Alameda Municipal
Code is hereby amended by adding
Article 3 to Chapter 3, Title 11, thereof,
consisting of Sections 2-331 through
2-338, to read:
Article Historical Advisory
Commission
Sec. 2-331. Commission Creat-
ed.In order to encourage broad
community Participation in the
history of Alameda, and preserve
and protect structures, sites and
areas of historical significance in
the City, there is hereby created
the Alameda Historical Advisory
Commission, hereinafter
referred to as the Commission,
which shall be appointed and or-
ganized, and shall have respon-
sibilities, as hereinafter set forth.
Sec. 2-332. Membership. The
Commission shall consist of
those Persons appointed by the
City Council to the Design
Review Board and shall serve for
the same terms, without com-
Pensation, satisfy the same
requirements for qualification
and be terminated in the same
manner as Design Review Board
Sec. 2-333. Meetings. Officers.
Rules. The Commission shall
meet at least once each calendar
month and shall hold such addi-
tional meetings as it determines
to be necessary for discharge of
its responsibilities hereunder.
The Commission shall select a
Chairman and Vice-Chairman
who shall each serve for one (1)
Year terms or until successors
are appointed,
The Planning Director or his
designate shall be the Board's
Secretary and he shall cause
minutes and records of the
Board's meetings to be kept.
Sec. 2-334. Quorum, A majority
of the members of the Com mls-
sion shall constitute a quorum
for the transaction of business,
Sec. 2-335. Majority Vote
Required. A majority vote of the
entire membership of the Com-
mission shall be required for any
Commission act i on to be taken,
Sec. 2-336, Duties. it sha I I be
the duty of the Commission to
advise the City Council 0 n all
matters concerning the historical
state of the City, to report to the
City Council the historical needs
of the City, and to recommend to
the City Council the means for
their fulfillment, In discharge of
this responsibility, the Commis-
sion shall have the following
specific duties:
( a) The Commission shall
Provide liaison between the City
and historical organizations
operating within the local com-
(b) The Commission may
devise and recommend to the
City Council implementation of
Procedures for establishing and
maintaining appropriate rela-
tionships with non-local his-
torical organizations,
Sec 2-337. Historica
Commission may develop and
recommend to the City Council a
program for the preservation
and restoration of important his-
torical sites within the City.
Sec. 2-338. Related Duties. The
Commission shall Perform such
related duties as may be referred
to them for action by the City
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in
full force and effect from and after the
expiration of thirty (30) days from the
date of its final Passage.
