AMENDING THE ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL CODE BY AMENDING
SECTIONS 11 -14B8, 11- 14B4(b)(3) AND (4) AND 11- 14B9(a)
THEREOF AND BY ADDING SECTION 12 -2513 THERETO,
RELATING TO ABATEMENT AND REMOVAL OF NONCONFORMING
SIGNS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA tr
Section 1 . Section 11 --14B4 of the Alameda Municipal Code
is hereby amended by amending subdivisions (3) and (4) of sub-
section (b) thereof, to read as follows:
(3) The area and dimensions of any sign in a
Commercial District shall be as regulated in Chapter 2,
Title XII of this Code.
(4) The area and dimensions of any sign in an
Industrial District shall be as regulated in Chapter 2,
Title XII of this Code.
Section 2 . Section 11 -14B9 of the Alameda Municipal Code
is hereby amended by amending subsection (a) thereof to read:
(a) Exceed fifty (50) square feet;
Section 3 . Section 12 -2513 is hereby added to the Alameda
Municipal Code, to read as follows:
Sec. 12 -2513 No advertising structure shall
exceed fifty (50) square feet in area.
Section 4 . Section 11 -14B8 of the Alameda Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 11 -1488 Regulation and Abatement of Outdoor
Advertising Display Signs. Purpose and Intent It is the
purpose of these regulations to eliminate excessive and
confusing sign displays which do not relate to the premises
on which they are located; to eliminate hazards to pedes-
trians and motorists brought about by distracting sign
displays; and to preserve and improve the appearance of
the City as a place in which to live and work.
It is the intent of these regulations to protect an
important aspect of the economic base of the City by pre-
venting the destruction of the natural beauty and
environment of the City, which is instrumental in attract-
ing residents and non - residents who come to live, visit,
trade or vacation; to safeguard and enhance property
values; to protect public and private investment in build-
ings and open spaces; and to protect the public health,
safety and general welfare.
Section 5 . This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after the expiration of thirty (30) days from the
date of its final passage.

was duly and regularly readopted and passed by the Council of the City of
Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 18th day of October, 1977, by
the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Beckam, Diament, Sherratt, Tillman and
President Corica, (5).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
