AMENDING ARTICLE 3, CHAPTER 4 OF TITLE XVII OF THE
ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO STOP SIGNS AT
MECARTNEY ROAD AND ISLAND DRIVE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that:
Section 1 . Section 17 -431 (Through Highways) of the
Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended by amending subsection
(25) thereof to read as follows:
(25) Island Drive, from the southerly line of
Doolittle Drive to the southerly line of Catalina Avenue,
excluding however its intersection with Mecartney Road.
Section 2 . Section 17 -432 (Stop Intersections) of the
Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding subsection
(224) thereto to read as follows:
(224) Island Drive and Mecartney Road, signs shall
be erected on Island Drive at or near the southeasterly
and northwesterly corners of its intersection with
Mecartney Road, and on Mecartney Road at or near the
northeasterly and southwesterly corners of its intersection
with Island Drive.
Section 3 . This ordinance is one of great necessity and
urgency within the meaning of Section 3 -12 of the City Charter, is
introduced and passed at the same Council meeting and shall
become effective on April 18, 1979.
Section 4 . The facts constituting the necessity and
urgency hereof are:
1. That traffic regulations are essential for the orderly
flow and control of traffic within the City.
2. That such regulations should necessarily be immediately
effective on passage to insure that maximum preservation of
public welfare is obtained.
3. That a potential health and safety problem will exist
if such amendments are not immediately effective.
4. That, in light of such potential health and safety
problems involved, the normal delay between enactment of this
ordinance and its effective date would be injurious.
5. This Council hereby finds, determines and declares
that it is in the best interest and necessity that this ordinance
be introduced and passed at the regular meeting of the City
r Council held April 17, 1979, and that this ordinance become and be
