CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 14635
APPROVING THE CITY OF ALAMEDA ANNEX TO THE ABAG REPORT
"TAMING NATURAL DISASTERS" AS THE CITY OF ALAMEDA'S LOCAL
HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
WHEREAS, the Bay Area is subject to various earthquake-related hazards
such as ground shaking, liquefaction, fault surface rupture, and tsunamis; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area is subject to various weather-related hazards
including wildfires, floods, and landslides; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda recognizes that disasters do not recognize
city, county, or special district boundaries; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda seeks to maintain and enhance both a
disaster-resistant City and region by reducing the potential loss of life, property
damage, and environmental degradation from natural disasters, while accelerating
economic recovery frc ni f ,-Iisasters; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alarrada is committed to increasing the disaster
resistance of the infrcstructure, heal,n housing, economy, government services,
education, environrr ent, nd land use .-ystems in the City of Alameda, as well as
in the Bay Area as a N/V iole; and
WHEREAS, the kda. r'sastPr Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all cities,
counties, and special distri,:tz t have adopted a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to
receive disaster mitigation frnin FEMA; and
WHEREAS, ABAG has approved and adopted the ABAG report Taming
Natural Disasters as th multi-jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan for the
San Francisco Bay Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda adopts,
and adapts with its local annex, this multi-jurisdictional plan as its Local Hazard
Mitigation Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of
Alameda commits to continuing to take those actions and initiating further actions,
as appropriate, as identified in the City Annex of that multi-jurisdictional Local
Hazard Mitigation Plan by adopting this list of mitigation strategies as the
Implementation Appendix of the Safety Element of Its General Plan.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a
regular meeting assembled on the 15th day of November, 2011, by the following
vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Bonta, deHaan, Johnson, Tam and
Mayor Gilmore — 5.

ABSTENTIONS: None.
