COMMENDING ROB BONTA FOR TWO YEARS OF SERVICE TO
THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS VICE MAYOR
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta began his service to the City of Alameda
in November 2003, when he was appointed to the Social Service Human
Relations Board, later serving as President of the Board; and
WHEREAS, during his time on the Social Service Human
Relations Board, Rob Bonta fought to protect safety net services for the
most vulnerable members of the community,
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta also served as President of the Board of
Alternatives in Action, which oversees high school, preschool and after
school programs serving youth from Oakland, San Leandro, and
Alameda; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta was appointed to the City's Economic
Development Commission in October 2006, served as Chair of the
Commission, and focused his efforts on business attraction and
business retention; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta served as an elected member of the
Alameda Health Care District Board of Directors, where he played a key
role in stabilizing the finances of Alameda Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta was elected to the City Council of the City
of Alameda on November 2, 2010, assumed office on December 21,
2010, and served until December 3, 2012; and
WHEREAS, during his time as Vice Mayor, Rob Bonta ably
represented the City of Alameda on the Alameda County Transportation
Commission; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta also worked collaboratively with the Navy
to ensure the no -cost conveyance of nearly 1,000 acres at the former
Alameda Naval Air Station; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta partnered with the Alameda Theatre to
sponsor a community screening and discussion of the film "Bully" and
also participated in a panel discussion on bullying prevention at the
College of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, Rob Bonta was elected to the California State
Assembly on November 6, 2012 and will continue to serve the Alameda
community during his time in Sacramento.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Alameda does hereby express its sincere appreciation for
Rob Bonta's many years of service to the Alameda community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Alameda does hereby congratulate Rob Bonta on his many
accomplishments as a member of the City's Social Service Human
Relations Board, Economic Development Commission, and City Council
and wish him well in his future endeavors.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of
Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 11th day of December,
2012, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers deHaan, Johnson, Tam and
Mayor Gilmore — 4.
