SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL AB 59
WHEREAS, the State of California has dramatically reduced funding for
education over the past several years in an effort to balance its budget; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 30 has temporarily slowed our state's financial
bleeding; and
WHEREAS, local school districts are still suffering from years of budget
cuts; and
WHEREAS, AB 59 clarifies existing revenue options for local school
districts so they can continue providing educational opportunities in the face of
ongoing state budget difficulties; and
WHEREAS, AB 59 clarifies existing law by stating that school districts are
allowed to assess parcel taxes in accordance with rational classifications among
taxpayers or types of property within a district, as long as the taxes are applied
uniformly within those classifications;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Alameda supports ASSEMBLY BILL AB 59.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a
regular meeting assembled on the 5th day of February, 2013, by the following
vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Chen, Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Tam
and Mayor Gilmore — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
