APPROVING AN ALTERNATIVE WORK ARRANGEMENT POLICY
FOR FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT EXEMPT EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS, on June 7, 1983, the Council of the City of Alameda
approved a Reduced Work Time Options Policy Statement and Procedures
that, when mutually acceptable, allowed the City and the employees to adjust
work schedules to provide for fewer work hours in return for proportionately less
pay and benefits; and
WHEREAS, the qualifying guidelines, limitations, and benefit
considerations established in the 1983 Policy Statement and Procedures are
outdated and in often cases, contrary to current employment rules and benefits
practices: and
WHEREAS, to provide the City with the option and opportunity to reduce
personnel costs while retaining experienced employees and meet current
employment rules and benefits practices,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council hereby approves and adopts said new Alternative
Work Arrangement Policy that provides an Alternative Work Arrangement
where there is a demonstrated benefit to the City, wherein a full -time, regular,
non - probationary, non - sworn, exempt employee may voluntarily request a two
thirds or three - quarters weekly work schedule for a designated period of no
more than one fiscal year, with the intent to return to his /her regular
assignment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the provision of this Resolution shall
supersede any other resolution in conflict herewith.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a
regular meeting assembled on the 5th day of February, 2013 by the following
vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Chen, Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Tam
and Mayor Gilmore — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
