AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF ONE NEW FIRE ENGINE USING THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT'S COMPETITIVE BID AWARD;
AND RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE A PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH
PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $393,393.13
WHEREAS, the Fire Department requires one quantum pumper to fully
perform its fire suppression duties; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-61.7 of the Alameda Municipal Code authorizes
the purchase of vehicles, apparatus, or other personal property or goods
together or in cooperation with any other city, provided the purchase is the
result of competitive bidding or proposal; and
WHEREAS, In January 2002, the City of Bakersfield conducted a
competitive bidding procedure to purchase certain fire apparatus; and
WHEREAS, as a result of its competitive bidding process, the City of
Bakersfield chose to purchase the fire apparatus from Pierce Manufacturing;
and
WHEREAS, the Fire Chief of the City of Alameda is recommending that
one quantum pumper needed by the City of Alameda be purchased pursuant to
subsection 2-61.7; and
WHEREAS, purchase of one quantum pumper from Pierce
Manufacturing provides fleet compatibility for existing spare parts; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has had a business relationship with
Pierce Manufacturing for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, the familiarity of the Fire Department personnel with Pierce
Manufacturing equipment will likely reduce training time for firefighters and
garage mechanics; and
WHEREAS, financing for the purchase has been arranged through the
General Funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Alameda that the Fire Chief and/or his authorized representative may
purchase one quantum pumper from Pierce Manufacturing in the amount of
$393,393.13 and in conjunction with the City of Bakersfield's recent bidding
process, and in accordance with Alameda Municipal Code Subsection 2-61.7.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in the Regular Meeting of the City
Council on the 15th day of August 2006, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, deHaan, Gilmore, Matarrese and Mayor
Johnson - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS` None.
