Resolution 11916CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11916
URGING LEGISLATIVE OFFICIALS TO DEMAND REPAIR
OF COUNTY ROADWAYS TO EARTHQUAKE STANDARDS
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda
that the California delegation to the U.S. Congress be urged to
advocate:
a. Continued expansion of alternate modes of
transportation, including ferries, park and ride lots
complemented by shuttlebus service to major employment
centers, commute rail service on the existing Southern
Pacific right-of-way, and express bus service on
designated "transit lanes" on the existing freeway
roadbed; and
b. Immediate release of federal funds to reimburse for,
and allow operators to continue, expanded service; and
c. Immediate sonar and visual examination of all
existing Bay Area freeway onramps, overpasses and
elevated structures to ensure the safety of freeway
users; and
d. A program to bring all Bay Area freeways up to full
earthquake and safety standards before any highway funds
are spent on expansion or new construction; and
e. A study of commute patterns with the aim of retaining
successful alternate modes of transit rather than
expanding or double-decking existing freeways.
