REAFFIRMING THE CITY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT FOR MEASURE A
WHEREAS, Measure A was adopted in 1973 by an overwhelming vote
of the citizens of Alameda who were reacting to the large -scale
destruction of historic homes which were replaced by many large,
un- aesthetically pleasing apartment complexes; and
WHEREAS, the potential degradation of community life and harm
to the environment were the issues which galvanized the community
to seek this form of protection; and
WHEREAS, Measure A now prohibits the development of multiple
dwelling units in Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is one of the most densely
populated cities in the Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, Measure A was reaffirmed by a vote of the people in
1984; and
WHEREAS, Members of the City Council desire to reaffirm their
support for the basic premise and spirit of Measure A and continue
to act to preserve the small -town, residential character of this
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Alameda hereby goes on record as supporting the intent and
quality -of -life results of Measure A.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 1st day of
May , 1990, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Thomas, Withrow
and President Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
