COMMEMORATING THE COURAGEOUS ACTIONS OF
JENNIFER LEIGH OLSON
WHEREAS, on December 23, 1990, a fire broke out in the home of 14
year old Jennifer Leigh Olson. The fire threatened the
lives of her grandfather, her sister and her three
younger brothers; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer led her grandfather, her sister and brothers to
safety. She then braved the flames once again to try and
rescue the family pets; and
WHEREAS, during this act of bravery, the concern she had for her
animal friends resulted in her being trapped by the fire;
and
WHEREAS, this vivacious young girl did indeed exhibit valor and
love for her family and animal friends by sacrificing
her life in trying to save them so that they might remain
safe; and
WHEREAS, her heroic act will go down in the history of the City of
Alameda as a prime example of bravery and unselfishness;;!
which Alamedans will always remember.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda recognizes
and commends Jennifer's bravery and heroic efforts and
extends its deepest sympathy to Jennifer Leigh Olson's
family.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the fifteenth day
of January, 1991, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Thomas,
Withrow and Mayor Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
IN WITNESS, WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the
