AUTHORIZING SUPPLEMENTAL PAY AND BENEFITS PAYMENTS FOR
EMPLOYEES CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY DURING THE
CURRENT MILITARY CRISIS
WHEREAS, after reviewing the California Military and
Veteran's Code, it has been determined that it is the City of
Alameda's obligation to:
a. Allow employees to leave immediately as required by
military orders;
b. Hold jobs for employees' return from service time
as set forth in the same military orders;
c. Provide pay for 30 calendar days at beginning of
leave of absence unless already paid for leaving during same year;
and
WHEREAS, the pay reservists receive while on active duty
is often considerably less than their salary; and
WHEREAS, employees and their families would be helped
substantially if the City were to continue paying the health,
dental and life insurance benefits for the activated employee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Alameda does hereby authorize the following
expenditures related to employees called to active duty during the -
current military crisis: >
a. For a period of up to 180 days after an employee
called up for active duty, and is unable to work the employees:--
regular City assignment, the cost of supplementing the difference< -
between any full time City employee's active duty pay and the '
employee's regular salary plus the costs of continued benefits.
b. Replacement employee costs.

I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the fifth day of
February, 1991, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Thomas,
Withrow and President Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
IN WITNESS, WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the
official seal of said City this sixth day of February, 1991.
