SUBMITTING TO THE PECTIME A PROPOSED PENSION ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING A RETIREMENT 875TEM MOH briff EMPLOYEES,
WHEREAS, employees c33 the city recently waited upon the council
and requested that the annexed ordinance, which provides for pensioning and
establishing a retirement system for employees of the 32ty, be submitted to
the people, vithout a petition therefor, as authorized ty the provisions of
section One of the act of the legislature entitled "An act to provide for
direct legislation by cities and towns, including i7Ntistive 4i 0 roferendm",
approved .Iannary 2, 1912, end
WHEREAS, the council believe that sufficient signatures to such
an initiative petition could te obtained uithout doubt if the proponents
were compelled to go to the trouble and expense necessary to secare the
same, and
WHEREAS, tmaer the circumstances tic council is of the opinion
that the proposed ordinance should be submitted to the people uT,en request
of said empaoyees and 7ithont a petition therefor es authorized by said act,
not therefore it is hereby
ESOLVED, by the Council of the Gity of Alameda, thbt the annexed
ordinance be submitted to the people for their adoption or rejection at the
general municipal election to te held in said city On Tuesday, March 5, 1927,
and the clerk of the council ia hereby instructed to cause said ordinahce to
te printed, and mail a copy thereof, inclosed. in ran envelope zith the :ample
ballet, to each voter at least ten days prior to said election.
