Resolution 01858RESOLUTION NO... 1858 DECLARING THE NECESSITY AND EXPEDIENCY OF PROVIDING CERTAIN PUBLIC WORKS FOR RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYED RESIDENTS OF TEE CITY OF ALA1EDA, SPECIFYING THE PUBLIC WORK TO BE DONE AND THE TOTAL SUM TO BE WITHWRANN AND EXPENDED FROM THE "RELIEF FUND" FOR SUCH PURPOSES. WHEREAS, by reason of the unsettled and unprecedented exonomic conditions existing throughout this country, many residents of the City of Alameda are unemployed and in need of financial assistance; and WHEREAS, under the provisions of Ordinance No. 43 N. S., a special "Relief Fund" has been created for the purpose of providing relief and employment for unemployed and indigent residents of the City of Alameda; and WHEPA3., in the judgment of the City Council it is necessary and expedient and for the best interest of the City of Alameda that certain public works be authorized for the purpose of providing employment for unemployed residents of said City; and WHEREAS pub . interest and necessity demand the completion of the public improvements and the performance of the work hereinafter authorized; BOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TBE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that public interest and necessity demand that the following public improvements be completed, and the following work be performed, in and about the City of Alameda, during the fiscal year 1934-1935, to-wit: (a) Screening and cleaning of Washington Park beach; (b) Making juvenile equipment for recreational centers in the public parks of the City; (c) The construction and completion of a new garage storage room, machine shop and office building in the city corporation yard; the wrecking of old and obsolete buildings situated in said corporation yard, and the erection of a new pound yard; (d) The removal of old and obsolete gutter bridges in the city streets, and replacement of the same by the construction of new concrete gutter returns; (e) Repairing and reconditioning of roads leading to the garbage dumps of the City; (f) Repairing of sidewalks throughout the City, which have been damaged by growth of city trees; (g) Painting of street direction signs; (h) Repairing of city equipment; (i) Construction of modern sanitary buildings in the public parks of the City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is necessary and expedient and for the best interests of the City of Alameda that the public works hereinabove authorized be performed by unemployed residents of this City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the total sum of 0,016.00 be, and the sane is hereby, withdrawn from the "Relief Fund" of the City of Alameda, and that the said sum be, and is hereby, set aside and appropriated to be expended during the fiscal year 1934-1935 only in the payment of claims for labor and personal services on the public works hereinbefore authorized, in the manner provided by the laws of this City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager shall have full charge and general supervision of ell work and construction herein authorized to be performed, in- cluding the fixing of wages, the hours of labor, the persons to be employed, and the manner and time of performing such work. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the cost of all materials necessary to ba used for said construction work shall be paid out of the General Fund. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 21st day of August, 1934, by the following vote, to wit: ATES: Councilmen Bruzzone, Morris and President Murray, (3).
