AUTHORIZING AND PROVIDING FOR EXTRA MONTHLY REMUNERATION FOR
POLICE OFFICERS ATTAINING A CERTAIN PROFICIENCY IN MARKSMANSHIP.
WHEREAS, Captain John W. Strohm, pistol instructor of the Alameda Police Depart-
ment, and the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners have recommended that police
officers of this city be awarded extra compensation for a certain degree of proficiency
in marksmanship; and,
WHEREAS, the sum of 41000.00 has been provided in the 1935-1936 Annual Budget
for the Alameda Police Department to care for such expense; new therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that all police officers of the City of Alameda qualifying in accordance
with the Qualifications required by the Camp Perry Police course, under rules of the
National Rifle Association, be given a monetary compensation to cover their expenses
in preparing for and attending pistol shooting competitions, and extra hours devoted
to pistol practice while off duty e said monetary compensation to be as follows:
For each expert revolver shot, 45.0C per month; for each sharpshooter, 43.00 per
month; and for each marksran, 41.00 per month. Qualifications shall be determined in
a competitive test to be held once a'year, and in any large competition, a score of
270 points, or better, being required to entitle the competitor to credit as an expert
revolver shot, between 240 and 270 points for credit as a sharpshooter, and between
210 and 240 points for credit as a marksman.
Qualifications thus acquired shall be good until the next East Bay Competition,
except in case of sickness, injury, vacation, or in eases where an officer is on duty
and his services cannot be spared for the time of the competition, provided that in
no case shall the qualifications acquired extend for more than one year.
RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Alameda, that the monetary compensation
herein provided for shall be deemed additional compensation to that heretofore provided,
and shall be paid from Item 26K of the Alameda Police Department Budget for the fiscal
year 1935-1936; provided further, that the payment of such monetary compensation shall
cease entirely in case the amount provided in Item 26K of the Budget becomes exhausted.
