Resolution 02136RESOLUTION NO. 2136 APPROVING REPORT OF TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE WHEREAD,the City of Alameda has heretofore depended upon direct rail end ferry service of the Southern Pacific Company for communication with San Francisco, but ferry service is about to be abandoned and rail service is about to be rercuted circuitously to the terminal of the San-Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in Oakland, incurring an increase in trip time, to the inconvenienoe of the great mass of users of this service, and to the ultimate detriment of the City of Alameda; and WHEREAS, Public Utilities Commissioners, E.W.N.Bowes and John M. O'Dea, and Councilmen Elect, A. C. Carrington and Milton C. Godfrey, and City Manager Charles R. Schwanenberg, and City Engineer George Sperbeck were heretofore appointed a committee to study and report upon means of establishing adequate communication between the City of Alameda and the Eastern Terminal of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; and WHEREAS, said Committee has filed its Final Report, dated February 14, 1937, concluding and recommending (a) that a high level bridge be constructed across the San Antonio Estuary as an extension of the Cypress Street Approach to the San Francisco Bay Bridge in Oakland, and with its approach in Alameda terminating at Webster Street north of the Posey Tube, for receiving and discharging trains, vehicles and pedestrians, and (b) that the project to construct such a bridge be submitted to the Board of Super- visors of Alameda County, to the Director of Public Works of the State of California, to the City of Oakland, to the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works and to the Division of Highways and the State Toll Bridge Authority of the -State of California, and (c) that a Committee of Interurban Transportation be established in the City of Alameda for the purpose of carrying into effect such policy as this Council may adopt in the premises; and WHEREAS said report has been received and fully oonsidered, and the recommenda- tionstherein contained are deemed to be for the best interests of the City of Alameda, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TUE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that it hereby approves and adopts in principle the recommendations set forth in said report, and that a committee on Interurban Transportation be appointed forthwith to carry out, under the direction of this Council, the recommendations in said report contained. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in special meeting assembled on the 15th day of February, 1937, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen Calcutt, Maurer, Weichhart and President Eschen, (4).
