DECLARING RESULT OF SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN TEE
CITY OF ALAMEDA ON APRIL 294 1937, FOR TEE PURPOSE
OF SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORS 01 SAIL CITY TEE
PROPOSAL FOR TEE ADOPTION OF A PROPOSED CHARTER OF
SAID CITY.
WhEnEAS the Council of the City of Alameda, being the legislative body thereof,
pursuant to the provisions of Article Rd, Section C of the Constitution of: the State of
California. rid on its own motion and by resolution No. 2150, duly adopted on March 17,
1937, frame a proposed charter for the government r0 said city, which proposed charter
was fully set forth in said resolution and e copy filed in the office of the City Clerk
of the City of Alameda on March 17, 1937, which proposed charter is hereby referred to
and by this reference made a part hereof to all intents and purposes as though fully set
forth herein, and
WHEREAS by said resolution .o. 2150 said Council did cell u special election to
be held in said City on Thursday, April 29, 1937, for the purpose of submitting to the
qualified electors of said city the proposal for the adoption of tho said proposed charter
of the City of Alameda, which proposal is in words and figures as follows, to-wit:

and
WHEREAS sixty-rive election precincts were fixed and established in said City
for holding and conducting said soecial election, said precincts being the sae as were
last theretofore defined, described and established by she Board of Supervisors of the
County of Alameda, State of California, be resolution of said Board !do. 29400, adonted
December 17, 1935, and amendments thereto, as the election precincts within the City of
Alameda for holding general. state and county elections, and
WHEREAS the City Clerk of the City of Alameda, more than twenty-five days prior
to said special election, to-wit, on March 25, 1937, did file in his :ia'ice a notice
setting forth the date of such election and containing the proposal for the adoption of
said proposed charter, in which notice there was also designated the names and addresses
of the election officers who had been appointed for each precinct, and the polling places
therein, and also immediately thereafter caused a true copy of said notice to be posted
in a prominent place in his said office, and
WHEREAS the City Clerk also caused to be published a list of the names of the
election officers appointed, and the polling places designated for each election precinct,
in The Alameda dournal, a newspaper of general circulation and the official newspaper of
said City, for two issues, to-wit, on April 2, 1937 and on. April 9. 1937, and
-WHEREAS a proclamation and notice, setting forth the time of such special elec-
tion and the proposal to be voted upon thereat, and in the form and manner prescribed by
this Council, was published in said The Alameda journal for three issues, to-wit, on April
9, 1937, Apri116, 1937 end April 23, 1937, and a copy of said proclamation end notice -
was also posted on April 14, 1937, in each precinct in said City,at each place of election

EHEREAS all of the ballots used for said election were prepared, as to form
and contents, as provided by law,and a sample ballot was mailed to each registered elector
of the City of Alameda more than ten whole lays preceding the date of said election, and
WHEI1EAS the City Council caused the said proposed charter to be published and
advertising in accordanec rith the provisions of Section 8 of Article RI of the Constitu-
tion of the State of California on the leth day of Larch, 1937, in The Alameda journal,
a weekly newspaper of general circulation and the Official Newspaper of said City, and
in each edition thereof during the day of said publication, and
WHET-2AS copies of said proposed charter were printed in convenient pamphlet
form and in type of not less tban ten-point, and en advertisement that copies thereof
could be had by application therefor at the office of the City Clark of the City of
Alameda was published in said The Alameda journal, and in the Alameda Times-Star, a
newspaper of general circulation printed and published in said City deily except bwIdayb
on the 19th day of March, 1937, and in each issue thereafter until and including the day
fixed for said special election, all as required by Section e, Article XI of the Constitu-
tion of the State of California, and
WHEREAS a copy of said proposed charter, in convenient pamphlet form and in type
of not lees than ten-point was mailed to each registered elector of the eity of Alameda
with the sample ballot, and
WBEFEAS the officers of election for oed election were duly appointed and
qualified, and all election supplies furnished and election booths provided for each
precinct as required. by law, and
WEEREAS the Council of the City of A1aheda at thds, its next regular heeting
following said election, has not and fully canvassed the returns of the votes at at
said special election as required. by law, and bei0h7 fully ad71sed in the premises, and
having the returns of said canvass before it,
N0 TREREFORE, IT IS HERESY RESOLVED, DETERMINED aND DECIATED THE COUNCIL
OH THE CITY CF ALAMEDA, and said Council finds as follows:
(1) That said special election was in all respects and particulars held and
conducted in the time, form and manner provided by law;
(2) That the votes cast in each of the different precincts throughout the City
of Alameda on the said proposal for the adoption of said proposed charter of acid City was

(3) That the total number of votes cast for and against the said proposal
for adopting said proposed charter of said City was 4902.
(4) That the total number of electors voting in favor of said proposal was
2924.
(5) That the total number of electors votinz ncinst soid proposal was 1979.
5i IT' FURTHER RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND DECLARED that a majority of the
qualified electors of said eity voting on said proposal for the adoption of said. pro-
posed charter at said election voted in favor thereof, and that said proposed charter,
bereinbefore referred to, is hereby declared ratified end adopted as the charter of the
City of Alameda.
