AUTHORIZING PERFORhANCE AND COMPLETION OF A PROJECT
FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF BROADWAY IN THE CITY OF
ALAMEDA AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE
FOR SEALED BIDS.
WftEREAS, the City of Alameda, pursuant to the provision f the Streets
and Highways Code of the State or California and the rules and regulations promulgated
thereunder for administering the provisions thoreof, submitted to the Director of Public
Works of the State of California its project for the improvins of Broadway from the
Southerly line of Encinal Avenue to the Southerly gutter line of Santa Clara Avenue,
approximately 1303 feet, consisting of repaving the present roadway, and widening both
sides of trio street four (4) feet, and paving and constructing new curbs, Futter, gutter
bridgps, sidewalks, and taking out the present culverts and renlacing with new, and other
incidental work; and
WHEREAS, said project and construction work therein contemplated have been
approved by said Director of Public Works, and the moneys required to cover the coot of
sadd project have been allocated, and the expenditure thereof authorized and approved,
and
WHEREAS, a contract Of "Memorandum of Agreement' between the City of Alameda
and the Department of Public Works of the State of California was heretofore jointly exe-
cuted by the City on May , 1839, and by oe Department of Public Works en May
103Y, and
WHEREAS, plan and specifications for the improvement and anrk hereinbefore
referred to tare been prepared by the City Engineer of the City of Alameda and approved
by said Director of Public Works, and filed in the office of the City Clerk of said City
or the liith day of May, 1939, and numbered PW 5-392;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF IKE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
the aforesaid plans and specifications he, and the same are hareby; approved and adopted.
RESOLVED FUKTKER that the performance and completion of the work spcified
In said project and in said plans and specifications be, and the same IA hereby, authorized.
RESOLVEU FURTHER that the City Clerk be, and she iz hereby, authorized and
directed to advertise for sealed bids for the furnishing of labor and material required
for the completion of said project and improvement, in accordance with said plans and
specifications.
RESOLVED FURTHER that the general praysiling rate of ter diem wages and
rates for lewal holiday and overtime work in the locality in which said work lo to be
performed, for each craft Of type of workmen or mechaAlc needed to execute the contract
for said work, is hereby ascertained. and determined to be as follows;

Sundays and holidays (excod eatehien, guards and flagman) double the

The foregoing schedule of wages is based upon a working day, unless
otherwise specified, of eight (8) hours.
RESOLVED FURTHER that it shall be mandatory upon the contractor, and upon
any subcontractor under him, to pay not less than. the said specified rates to all
laborers, workmen and mechanics employed by them in the execution of said work and the
contract therefor.
RESOLVED FURTHER that each bid shall be eccompazied by a cashier's check
or a certified check, on a responsible bank, in e sum equal to ten per cent (10%) of the
aggregate amount of the bid, payable to the City of Alameda, to be forfeited tn said City
as agreed and liquidated damages should the party or parties to whom the contract shall
be awarded fall to enter into a contract for the performance and completion of such work
or to Five bonds, as recurred by law and by said plans and specifications.
RESOLVED FURTHER that such sealed bids will be received by the City Clerk
of the City or Alameda at the City Hall until Tuesday, the 6th day of June, 1036, at
815 o'clock p.m. or said dsy. Ail bids must be in writin. The Council reserves the
right to reject any and all bids.
