RESOLUTION NO. 5729
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Al AMEDA
PROTESTING THE ELIMINATION OF THE RAIL AREA ON THE
BAY BRIDGE AND DIRECTING THAT NECESSARY ACTION BE
TAKEN 3Y THE CITY ATTORNEY TO RETAIN SUCH 0101 AREA.
WHEREAS, the Key System Tr;nsit Eines and the Department of Public Works
are presently taking steps to remove the rails on the San Erancisco-Oakland Bay
Bridge and to eliminate the rail area as a separated right-of-wa7 for transit
vehicles; and.
WHEREAS, the Alameda-Contra Corta Transit District and the San Francisco
By Arer Rapid Transit: District are considering plans which will utilize thr rail
space on the B:tae; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Alameda. are of the strong opinion.
that an economical and realistic rapid transit program is vital to the best inter-
ests of the City of Alameda;
NOW TH2P1 FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL Or THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
it protests the elimination of the rail area of the San Francisco-Oaklano Bay Bridge
as long es there is a possibility of using the separated track area on the Brids:e
as part of the oresenu or futu/e mass LTansportation system of the San Francisco
3ay area; and
BE I FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Attorney is hereby directed to join
wIto the Alamsda-Cortra Costa Transit District and other interested public bodies
in any proceeding before the Public Utilities Commission or the Courts to carry cut
the purphses of this resolution.
