HESOLUTION OF t CITY OF ALAMEDA URGING THE PROVISICN
OF HOUSING UNITS FOR NAVAL AIR STATION PERSONNEL.
WHEREAS, there has been introduced a Bill in the House of Representatives,
HE 1022.U, to authorize certain construction at Military installations; and
WHEREAS, included in this lugiislation, and in accordance with the provi-
sions of Title 4 of tha using Amendments of 195'a:, is the provision "to construct
family housing for occupancy as public carters at Lraval Air Station, Alameda,
California, nine hundred units'; and
WHEREAS, these family units are to replace temporary housing tbab 1709,9 been
docDpred substandard c- the criteria as established. in Public Law 64-241; and
WHEREAS, surveys indicate gross deficiencies in the availability of adequate
housing within the structure of the basic allowance for quarters and within reason-
able distances to the Station; and
WHEREAS, unless action 19 taken immediately to replace these inadequate
quarters there will be a serious housing shortage for military personnel, since
present Quarters must be removed or demolished before 1 July 1961, which will create
an intolerable situation, both from ttc standpoint of its effect on the area economy,
and on Naval Air Station nersonnel and their morale; and accordingly, e deleterious
affect on the National Defense posture:
NCH, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TEE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
the Congress of the United States be urged to provide nine hundred (900) housing
units for Naval Air Station personnel, Alameda, California, by effecting the passage
of HE 10220, and that construction be started at the earliest possible date to
alleviate this serious deficiency,
BE TT FURTHER RESCLVED that copies of this resolution be presented to
Congressmen from the Seventh and Eighth Districts, California Senators, and the Com-
mittee on Armed Services, House cf Representatives, asking for their support en
this legislation.
