CITY OF AT_AMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 643R
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY 01 ALAMEDA IN MEMORIAM
TO GEORGE R. DORAN.
Win HEARTFELT SORROW, the Council of the City of Alameda records the death of one of
its former and must faithful officials, GEORGE R. DORAN, Retired Chief of Police.
WHEREAS, Chief Doran had been employed by the City as a Patrolman in the Police Depart-
ment on October 1, 1924, and had earned promotion to the position of Sergeant on july 15, 1933;
and
■.:HEREAS, Chief Doran, having conscientiously and efficiently performed duLie.: and
having exemplified his capacity for leadership, had been appointed Chief of Police on October 22,
1942, which positica he held at the Lime of his retirement on April 21, 1957, and
WHEREAS, Chief Doran, during his Administration, had initiated new programs for the
more effective training of police officers and had shown particular concern with the need for
youth guidance and had encouraged the sponsorship of certain sports activities for their benefit;
and
WHEREAS, Chief Doran had inspired the friendship and harmonious relations of his officers
through his personal integrity and impartiality in conducting the functions of his Department and,
also had engendered the great esteem of the people of the City for his promotion of an efficient
Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the sudden and untimely death of Chief Doran has greatly saddened his many
friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Alameda, in recognition
of his noteworthy service during his thirty-three years of City employment, does hereby express
its sense of personal sadness and its gratitude for the good influence exerted by this fine man
among his many associates in the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread in full upon the minutes of this
meeting and a copy thereof be sent to the family of Chief Doran. in order to extend to its members
a sincere expression of condolence in their bereavement,
EZ IT FURT1ER RESOLVED, that when this meeting of the Council of the City of Alameda
adjourns, it shall do so in respect to the memory of Chief GEORGE R. DORAN.
