RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ALAMEDA FREE LIBRARY TO PARTICIPATE
WITH OTHER PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN THE AREA IN APPLYING FOR JOINT
PLANNING GRANT FROM STATE OF CALIFORNIA, PURSUANT TO PUBLIC
LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT ACT (CH.1:7,DIV.20, EDUCATION CODE OF
CALIFORNIA).
WHEREAS, Chapter 1602 of Statutes 1963 added Chapter 1.5 (commencing with Section 27111)
to Division 20 of the Education Code cf California to provide, among other things, planning grants
to selected public Ibraries in the area for the purposes of joint exploration of new techniques for
cataloging and processing library materials, for new methods of coordinating library programs and
for investigating methods leading to more efficient operations; and
WHEREAS, such grants will enable the Alameda Free Library, along with other public librar-
ies, to undertake jointly with one another such purposes; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda does not now have funds available for such purposes; and
WHEREAS, or August 27, 1963, the Library Board of the City of Alameda approved its inten,
ti on to participate in such planning to be done jointly with other interested public libraries, and
chat the planning monies received from the State fnr such project shall be administered by the City
of Berkeley Public Library;
NOW THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 6 ALAMEDA chat the Alameda Free
Library be, and it hereby is, authorized to make joint application with other public libraries in
the area for a joint planning grant from the Scat& of California, pursuant to the Public Library
Development Act (Chapter 1.5, Division 20, Education Code of California).
