EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR REINSTATED FUNDING FOR THE
SAN LEANDRO BAY SURVEY FOR FISCAL YEAR 1981
WHEREAS, San Leandro Bay, a branch of the San Francisco
Bay, covers a large area consisting of approximately one and
one-sixth square miles of tidal basin with approximately six
miles of shoreline; and
WHEREAS, San Leandro Bay is readily accessible to several
hundred thousand residents of the East Bay and accessible to
residents of the entire region; and
WHEREAS, San Leandro Bay is shored by many different shore-
line configurations and opportunities for varied forms of activity;
and
WHEREAS, San Leandro Bay is one of the largest unimproved
centrally located urban recreational/aesthetical facilities with
a potential for hundreds of thousands of person-days of recreational
and aesthetical benefits per year; and
WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives in 1977
recognized the immense value of San Leandro Bay by authorizing a
full study by the Army Corps of Engineers; and
WHEREAS, that study has commenced but is presently stalled
for lack of funding;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Alameda urges the California Water Commission to support
funding for the continuation and ultimate completion of the study;
and
0-, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council of the City of Alameda
1. urges the Congress of the United States to fund the San Leandro Bay
Survey for Fiscal Year 1981 and subsequent years as necessary to
(-, fully understand the ultimate uses, benefits and costs associated
with the improvement of San Leandro Bay for the benefit of the
- - residents of the East Bay and of the San Francisco Bay Region and

I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of
Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 4th day of March, 1980,
by the following vote, to wit:
