RESOLUTION NO.10166
RESOLUTION WITH RESPECT TO THE DESTRUCTION
OF A CIVILIAN AIRLINER BY THE
USSR
WHEREAS, the entire world depends on mutual trust among
nations in the conduct of civilian affairs; and
WHEREAS, civilian airline passengers are particularly
vulnerable to uncivilized terrorist actions by
any group or renegade nation; and
WHEREAS, on August 31st a Korean civilian airliner with
269 passencrs aboard was destroyed by the Soviet
Union;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we express our outrage
at this uncivilized and inhumane action by the
government of the Soviet Union; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we express our sympathy to the
families of the victims of this assault on humanity;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we the government of the city of
Alameda ecpress our support and the support of
the people of our city to our national government,
the President and the Congress as they represent
our individual and national interest in this tragic
situatibn.
I -, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was
duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of
Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 20th of September, 1983, by
the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 3.
NOES: Councilmember Hanna - 1.
ABSENT: Councilmember Gorman - 1.
