Requesting the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development
Commission and the Metropolitan Transportation Commisssion to
Amend the San Francisco Bay Area Seaport Plane
WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area Sea Port Plan has designated the lands now
owned and /or leased by Alameda Gateway (formerly Todd Shipyard) as "Military Site"
and "Port Priority Use Area "; and
WHEREAS, such ownership designation was in error since none of these lands are owned
by the United States government; and
WHEREAS, military sites were only considered as "reserve capacity" if and when no
longer needed by military; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Sea Port Plan states that the sites included in the plan appear
to be adequate for the projected longrange demand for marine terminal development and
that the military sites could provide a reserve capacity for demand; and
WHEREAS, the proposed mixed use development of commercial, office, recreational and
light industrial uses of the Todd Shipyard property for the Alameda Gateway
development represents uses that enhance the environment and would provide
employment for unskilled and semi - skilled workers residing in the East Bay; and
WHEREAS, there are nurnerous marine terminal development sites and port priority use
areas within the immediate area
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda that a
request be made to the San Francisco Bay Conservation Commission and the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission to amend the San Francisco Bay Area Sea Port
Plan to repeal the designations of Military Site and Port Priority Use Area for the lands
now owned and leased by Alameda Gateway and that the amendment delete site "57C
Todd Shipyard on page 31 and designation of said site on page 34, M:ap 2 as a Marine
Terminal Development Site and Port Priority Use Area®
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 3rd day of July,
1984, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Gorman, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
GOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
