AUTHORIZING OPEN MARKET PURCHASE OF A MODULAR
AMBULANCE FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, in order to improve the City's level of ambulance
service and alleviate the problem of delayed backup service, an
additional new ambulance is needed in the Alameda Fire Department;
and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the best vehicle for
augmenting the City's program is a new 1984 Ford E-350, Type III,
Wheeled Coach Modular Ambulance; and
WHEREAS, a survey of vendors has revealed Arata Motor
Sales, Inc. of Burlingame, California as the most competitive
supplier of said vehicle; and
WHEREAS, this specially equipped 1984 model ambulance is
available immediately at a price considerably lower that for a
1985 or 1986 similar model; and
WHEREAS, purchase on the open market will allow for cost
savings that would not be available in the formal bid process;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council cf the City
of Alameda that pursuant to Section 3-15 of the City Charter the
Fire Department, in cooperation with the City Purchasing Agent,
is hereby authorized to negotiate and purchase on the open market
a new 1984 Ford E-350, Type III, Wheeled Coach Modular Ambulance.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 21st of May, 1985,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers, Corica, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
