AFFIRMING COUNCIL SUPPORT OF SIERRA CLUB SAN
FRANCISCO BAY CHAPTER BICYCLING SECTION "1986
KODAK LIBERTY RIDE FESTIVAL" AS A CIVIC EVENT
CELEBRATING THE RESTORATION OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
WHEREAS, the Sierra Club is organizing a large bicycle
ride (the KLRF) with full support and sponsorship of Eastman
Kodak to take place in Alameda on May 18, 1986; and
WHEREAS, the Sierra Club will be training over 250
volunteer marshals to assist in monitoring the ride; and
WHEREAS, the Sierra Club has committed to taking care of
clean-up after the event to preserve the beauty of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the Sierra Club will obtain the closure of the
Webster Street tube to provide safe bicycle entry into our City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that this Council does hereby affirm its support for
the proposed tube closure and bike ride as a civic event
contributing to the benefit and well-being of the people of
Alameda; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
forwarded to the Sierra Club and CalTrans by the City Clerk.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 1st of April, 1986,
by the, following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Corica, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
