ADOPTING A POSITION IN SUPPORT OF PLACING ON THE
NOVEMBER BALLOT THE PROPOSED ONE-HALF CENT SALES
TAX INCREASE AND ITS ASSOCIATED LIST OF TRANSPORTATION
PROJECTS AS APPROVED BY THE ALAMEDA COUNTYWIDE
TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE ON JULY 17, 1986
WHEREAS, the Alameda Countywide Transportation Committee
(ACTC) was formed in April, 1984, to coordinate the planning for
and advocacy of solutions to long-range transportation needs
within Alameda County; and
WHEREAS, the ACTC was requested by the Alameda
County Mayors Conference to develop a funding and implementation
plan for unfunded County transportation projects; and
WHEREAS, the ACTC prepared and, on July 17, 1986,
approved a list of transportation projects intended to address
the regional transportation problems which Alameda County is
currently facing; and
WHEREAS, California Senate Bill 878 (Boatwright), now
pending approval, authorizes any of the Bay Area counties to
place before the voters the issue of a sales tax increase of up
to one percent to fund transportation projects; and
WHEREAS, the ACTC plan recommends placing on the
November Ballot a one-half cent sales tax increase to fund the
transportation projects;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council hereby supports placement of the
proposed one-half cent sales tax increase measure on the November
ballot with its associated list of transportation projects as
approved by the Alameda Countywide Transportation Committee on
July 17, 1986.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in special meeting assembled on the 22nd day of July, 1986,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Counciimembers Corica, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
