PROPOSED AMENDMENTS
TO
THE CHARTER
of the
CITY OF ALAMEDA
Special Municipal Charter Amendment Election November 4, 1986
(Consolidated with General Election of the State of California)
The Council of the City of Alameda hereby proposes on its
own motion to amend the Charter of the City of Alameda:
1. By adding Section 2-16 to read:
Sec. 2-16. No person shall be elected to the same
office more than twice.
(Effect: Would add this section to limit elected
officials to two terms. For example, one could serve
two terms on the Council and two terms as Mayor but could
not thereafter serve in either capacity. This section
would supersede Section 2-14 in that regard.
2. By adding Section 2-17 to read:
Sec. 2-17. No person elected to the office of City
Council shall, prior to the expiration of the term for
which he or she is elected, be eligible for election
to the office of Mayor.
(Effect: Would prevent a Councilmember from running for
Mayor during the Member's elected term of office.
The Council of the City of Alameda hereby proposes to and
does hereby on its own motion submit to the qualified electors of
said City at a Special Municipal Charter Amendment Election to be
held in said City on Tuesday, November 4, 1986, (which said
election will be consolidated with the General Election of the
State of California to be held on November 4, 1986), the
following proposals to amend the Charter of the City of Alameda,
in the manner hereinabove specifically set forth, as follows:
