SUPPORTING LOCAL PHARMACIES CONTINUATION IN
HEALS HEALTH CARE PLAN INC.
WHEREAS, given the widespread enrollment of employees of the
City of Alameda, as well as other local governmental and private
entities, who joined the Heals Health Care Plan Inc. with the
understanding that they could use a pharmacy from a wide group of
Heals membership pharmacies including many in Alameda; and
WHEREAS, we the Mayor and members of the City Council
strongly object to any change in the Heals provider contract that
would allow Heals members to only use one provider of
prescription durgs; and
WHEREAS, the Council is concerned with matters of economic
interest to the City and its business community and objects to
any change in the Heals provider agreement that could financially
harm local pharmacies, especially when they have not had an
opportunity to re- negotiate with Heals; and
WHEREAS, local pharmacies offer valuable services such as
personal deliveries to the aged and disabled, established
personal relationships with customers and charge accounts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Alameda that it urges Heals Health Care Plan Inc. to consider re-
negotiating a contract with Alameda pharmacies to allow the
continuation of pharmaceutical services in Alameda that our
community has come to rely upon.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 21st of June, 1988,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Camicia, Haugner, Monsef, Thomas
and President Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
