AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF EASEMENTS TO CONTAIN
ELECTRICAL FACILITIES REQUIRED WITHIN UNDERGROUND
UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 8
WHEREAS, City of Alameda Resolution No. 11047
established Underground Utility Districts No 2 through No 9
and City of Alameda Ordinance No 2212 established regulations
and procedures for the removal of overhead utility facilities and
the installation of underground facilities by means of
underground utility districts; and
WHEREAS, soil conditions and high water table in Alameda
preclude locating transformers and switches below grade; and
WHEREAS, locations for said transformers and switches are
established based on specific customer requirements and service
loads on the electrical system; and
WHEREAS, said transformers and switches are typically
mounted at grade on concrete pads placed in the landscape strip
between the curb and the sidewalk or behind the sidewalk, and
WHEREAS, placing said transformers and switches behind
the sidewalk requires the acquisition of easements for
encroachment onto private property; and
WHEREAS, Underground Utility District No 8 encompasses
Santa Clara Avenue between Broadway and Everett Street, Everett
Street between Central Avenue and Webb Avenue, and Webb Avenue
between Everett Street and Park Street, requiring the
acquisition of five easements for the installation of five
at -grade transformer pads; and
WHEREAS, on November 17, 1987, the City Council
authorized the Public Works Director to negotiate with
the affected property owners for the purchase of said easements
at "fair market" value; and
WHEREAS, "fair market value for said easements has been
proposed at $10.00 per square foot, with a minimum purchase price
of $1,000 per easement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council hereby authorizes the purchase of
five easements to contain electrical facilities required within
Underground Utility District No. 8 for the sums hereafter
listed:

Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 15th of November, 1988,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Monsef, Thomas
and President Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
