AUTHORIZING OPEN MARKET PURCHASE OF
HANDGUNS FOR POLICE OFFICERS
WHEREAS, the President of the Alameda Police Officers
Association has formally requested assistance in the purchase of
handguns for officers of the Alameda Police Department; and
WHEREAS, City cooperation in said handgun procurement
provides Alameda police officers with substantial savings in the
purchase of equipment necessary in their job performance; and
WHEREAS, the best proposal received for eleven Model 659
Smith and Wesson handguns was from Professional Police Supply of
Oakland, CA for an all inclusive price of $4,752.00; and
WHEREAS, the best proposal received for one hundred three
Beretta 92-F and SigSauer P-225 and P-226 handguns was from
Gulf-States Distributing of Montgomery, Alabama for a net price
of $48,164.20;
WHEREAS, said purchase is accomplished through the
Purchasing Agent's Trust Fund with the total cost of acquisition
borne by the police officers participating.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that pursuant to Section 3-15 of the City Charter the
Police Department, in cooperation with the City Purchasing Agent,
is hereby authorized to negotiate and purchase a lowest and best
price for handguns in the open market on behalf of the Alameda
Police Officers Association.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 6th of December, 1988,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Thomas and
President Corica - 4.
NOES: None.
ABSENT:
Councilmember Monsef 1.
