SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO WITHHOLD FEDERAL
AID TO THE OAKLAND AIRPORT UNTIL NOISE
REDUCTION IS ACCOMPLISHED
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is adjacent to the Oakland
Airport; and
WHEREAS, there have been noise complaints emanating from
the Oakland Airport's operation over the years which have caused
citizens' complaints and concerns; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland airport expansion has regional
impacts which require the participation of local communities in
the decision making process; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland Airport has received millions of
dollars in federal grants and will apply for more; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Stark has introduced legislation to
limit federal grants to the Oakland Airport until noise problems
are solved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council hereby supports any effort to reduce
noise from the Oakland Airport, including the withholding of
grant funds and the requirement that local agencies participate
in the planning process.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 17th of January, 1989,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Counoilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Monsef and
Acting President Thomas - 4.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Mayor Corica - 1.
