ENCOURAGING EMPLOYMENT OF ALAMEDA YOUTH DURING THE
SUMMER MONTHS
WHEREAS, the entire Alameda community will benefit
economically and socially as a result of having productively
employed youth; and
WHEREAS, work builds character and confidence and develops
social, career and money management skills in employees of all
ages; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Alameda feels strongly
that a myriad of opportunities and positive, constructive
alternatives to gang activities should be provided to Alameda °s
youth; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has consistently hired youth to
assist with the provision of services provided by various City
departments (eg. Recreation and Park, Animal Shelter) and expects
to hire at least 100 for the 1988 -89 Summer period; and
WHEREAS, there are over 5,000 licensed businesses in the
City of Alameda, which can help develop job readiness and self -
sufficiency by offering employment opportunities to Alameda youth
during the Summer months
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City
of Alameda strongly encourages local business owners to hire
Alameda youth as vacation replacements or extra help during the
Summer months; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Alameda, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Alameda Chamber of Commerce, the business associations and to the
Buena Vista Community Association.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 6th of June, 1989,
by the following vote to wit:

and President Corica - 5,
