CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11975
REQUESTING DELETION OF SCR-20 SAN FRANCISCO BAY CROSSING
STUDY ALTERNATIVE 2 (SOUTHERN CROSSING VEHICULAR AND BART
BRIDGE) AND ALTERNATIVE 3 (SOUTHERN CROSSING VEHICULAR
AND BART TUNNEL) FROM FURTHER STUDY.
WHEREAS SCR-20 San Francisco Bay Crossing Study
commissioned Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), by
legislation, to study the need and feasibility of providing
additional access across the San Francisco Bay south of the Bay
Bridge, and;
WHEREAS MTC has hired a Consultant to develop a list of
possible alternatives, and
WHEREAS the list of alternatives includes two Southern
Crossing options (Alternatives 2 and 3) which would extend freeway
facilities from Oakland through Alameda and to San Francisco, and
WHEREAS, the Consultant's report indicates that both of
these alternatives would have significant negative environmental
and social impacts on the City of Alameda and neighboring
communities, and

WHEREAS the Southern Crossing alternative had been
previously studied in 1966 and 1971, and defeated by a vote of the
.r6 people in 1972, and further study would be redundant and a waste
of taxpayers' money;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by Council of the City of
Alameda that said Council hereby requests MTC to delete
Alternatives 2 (Southern Crossing Vehicular and BART Bridge) and
3 (Southern Crossing Vehicular and BART Tunnel) from further study.
