URGING SAFEWAY UPON THE CLOSURE OF THEIR
RICHMOND, SAN LEANDRO AND FREMONT WAREHOUSES
TO ALLOW THEIR EMPLOYEES TO FOLLOW THEIR JOBS TO TRACY
WHEREAS, Safeway has two large super markets located within
the City of Alameda, employing approximately 115 individuals, some
of whom reside in Alameda; and
WHEREAS, Alameda residents who patronize and support Safeway
stores generate sales tax to the City of Alameda;
WHEREAS, the proposed transfer of the Richmond, San Leandro,
and Fremont warehouse facilities to Tracy would be a hardship to
those Safeway employees who reside in Alameda; and
WHEREAS, in view of today's economy, there are fewer
cc employment opportunities in the City of Alameda;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda urges

>- Safeway Stores to allow its affected employees to follow their jobs

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is authorized and
directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Safeway Stores
and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 7th day of
April , 1992, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Lucas, Roth
and President Withrow - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
