AUTHORIZING GRANT APPLICATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT
OF FORESTRY AND FIRE PROTECTION URBAN FORESTRY GRANT
PROGRAM UNDER THE CALIFORNIA WILDLIFE, COASTAL, AND
PARK LAND CONSERVATION ACT OF 1988
WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have
enacted the California Wildlife, Coastal, and Park Land
Conservation Act of 1988, which provides funds to the State of
California and its political subdivisions for urban forestry
programs; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda values street trees as a
natural resource and recognizes the benefits trees bring to the
urban environment; and,
WHEREAS, the 1990 street tree inventory showed that
there were at least 5,000 locations where new street trees may be
planted; and,
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department is responsible for2
planting and maintaining of the City's street trees and has an
established a Capitol Improvement Project to provide funding a
tree planting program with a goal of planting 500 new trees each
year; and,
WHEREAS, certain streets and residential neighborhoods
within the City of Alameda have been identified by the street
tree inventory that could benefit from the planting of new street
trees; and,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Alameda that Robert L. Warnick, Public Works Director, is
hereby authorized to execute for and on behalf of the City of
Alameda, a public entity established under the laws of the State
of California, a grant application for the Urban Forestry Program
under the California Wildlife, Coastal, and Park Land
Conservation Bond Act of 1988; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Alameda, a
public entity established under the laws of the State of
California, hereby authorizes the Public Works Director to
provide to the State Department of Forestry for all matters
pertaining to such grant assistance the assurances and agreements
required.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 21st- day of
April , 1992 ", by the following vote to wit
