AUTHORIZING A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE
ASSISTANCE, POLICE HIRING SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda Police Department desires to
undertake a certain project designated Police Hiring Supplement
Program to be funded in part from funds made available through the
Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Police Hiring Supplement Program is
specifically designed to assist local law enforcement agencies in
hiring additional sworn officers to assist in the implementation of
these programs; and
WHEREAS, the grant program would fund 50% of the total
salary and benefits for the three year life of the grant, up to a
maximum amount of $1 million; and
WHEREAS, one of the requirements of the grant program is
an endorsement by the City Council that the Alameda Police
Department retain officers hired through the Police Hiring
Supplement Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that the City manager is hereby authorized, on behalf of
the City of Alameda, to submit an application to the Department of
Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance for a Police Hiring
Supplement Program grant and to execute any necessary documents or
agreements.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Alameda hereby endorses the retention of officers hired through
the Police Hiring Supplement Program grant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Alameda is
committed to the philosophy of community oriented policing.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in-regular meeting assembled on the 5th day of
October , 1993, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Appezzato, Arnerich, Lucas, Roth
and President Withrow 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
