DESIGNATING LABOR DAY, IN PERPETUITY AS
"TRY AMERICAN DAY"
WHEREAS, the creativity and ingenuity of American working
men and women in the United States has provided a host of new
products and services which improve the quality of life in the
United States and the World; and
WHEREAS, American workers should be recognized as one of
our Nation's most valuable resources; and
WHEREAS, the American spirit of entrepreneurship, pride
of craftsmanship, and commitment to quality are hallmarks
recognized throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the United States and its citizens have reason
to celebrate the strength and quality of American products and
services; and
WHEREAS, the quality and abundance of American goods are
a tribute to the productivity and ability of American workers; and
WHEREAS, the ability of American companies to export,
even in the face of strong trade barriers in many countries, is a
sign of the true competitiveness of American products; and
WHEREAS, American farmers and ranchers provide this
country and the world with a wide array of high quality food and
fiber products and consistently create annual agricultural trade
surpluses of more than $20,000,000,000; and
WHEREAS, the energy and perseverance of American business
serves as a beacon for other nations that strive to ensure
prosperity for their people; and
WHEREAS, American small business provides a basis for
economic progress; and for the creation of jobs and opportunities
for people from every corner of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that the City of Alameda hereby designates Labor Day, in
perpetuity as "Try American Day".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the
Governor of California, Alameda County Board of Supervisors and
USA/Owned/USA Made founder, Rick Muth.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 15th day of
March , 1994, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Appezzato, Arnerich, Lucas, Roth
and President Withrow - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
