COMMENDING THE UNITED PILIPINOS OF ALAMEDA
FOR SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE OPERATION OF
AN EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN
WHEREAS, from April, 1983 to June, 1994, the United
Pilipinos of Alameda operated an Emergency Shelter for Battered and
Homeless Women and their children; and
WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda sought and
received State, County, City and community funding to operate the
Shelter, thereby providing a safe haven from domestic violence and
the hardships of homelessness; and
WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda enlisted the
involvement of many community members as volunteers and financial t
supporters of the Shelter program; and
WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda have worked with S? C3

other homeless service providers to improve and expand services to
Alameda's homeless, including participation in the Alameda Homeless
Task Force and the Comprehensive Homeless Intervention and
Prevention Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda Social Service Human
Relations Board recognizes the significant and long-lasting impacts
that the United Pilipinos of Alameda's programs have had on the
lives of battered and homeless women and their children and -5
recommends they be commended for their contributions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda and the United Pilipinos of
Alameda have enjoyed a long and constructive relationship helping
battered and homeless women and children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Alameda hereby commends and extends its grateful
appreciation to the United Pilipinos of Alameda, its founders,
members, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and supporters, for
their years of service to the community through the Emergency
Shelter for Women and Children.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 6th day of
DPcPmber , 1994, by the following vote to wit:
