Resolution 12623CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12623
SUPPORTING ESTABLISHMENT OF A MULTI -MODAL
TRANSIT CENTER IN DOWNTOWN SAN FRANCISCO
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation, the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the City of San Francisco,
AC Transit, Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, Golden
Gate Transit, SamTrans and the CalTrain Joint Powers Board are
jointly participating in a study of how to improve transit
operations and interoperator connections in downtown San Francisco;
and
WHEREAS, the study is being conducted in the context of
a transportation and land use analysis for the area in the vicinity
of the existing Transbay Transit Terminal; and
WHEREAS, the proposed extension of CalTrain to downtown
San Francisco is projected to substantially increase the ridership
and effectiveness of rail service to the Peninsula which further
enforces the need for a multi -modal transportation facility; and
WHEREAS, joint development at a regional transit center
would potentially generate substantial profits which could help to
subsidize both rail and bus transit operations; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Alameda would benefit from a
multi -modal transit facility which minimizes travel time from
Alameda vis -a -vis transbay bus service and BART to San Francisco.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Alameda that:
Section 1. Establishment of an efficient multi -modal
regional transit center is an important goal for the region, and
Alameda in particular because it would improve commutes for Alameda
residents who work in San Francisco.
Section 2. The multi -modal facility should combine all
transit modes, AC Transit, BART, Muni, Ferry and CalTrain as such
that commuter convenience is optimized, commuter travel time
minimized, and job access is maximized.
Section 3. The bus terminal, CalTrain extension
designation, and airport rail services projects are interlinked due
to funding and operational factors, and should be analyzed
simultaneously rather than in isolation from each other.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to
forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Board of
Directors of AC Transit.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
