CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12629
COMMENDING YOUTH FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
AND DECLARING APRIL 25, 1995 ALAMEDA YOUTH SERVICE DAY.
WHEREAS, April 25, 1995, has been declared National Youth
Service Day by Youth Service America in cooperation with the U.S.
Conference of Mayors, the Points of Light Foundation and the
Lutheran Brotherhood; and
WHEREAS, National Youth Service Day celebrates and honors
America's young people involved in programs and projects to improve
their communities and country; and
WHEREAS, Alameda youth, through their schools, places of
worship and youth groups, such as the Alameda Boys and Girls Club,
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls, 4-H Youth Program, Young
kLife, Key Club, Rainbow Girls, Job's Daughters, DeMolay, Key Club,
ri Kids Who Care, Buena Vista Community Association, Alameda Youth
7f Council, CARE, and the Alameda Food Bank, serve the community on a
daily basis and in a variety of ways; and
WHEREAS, Alameda youth contribute untold hours of personal
time to the community good by volunteering at many local agencies
and organizations, including the American Red Cross, Alameda
Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Midway Shelter and numerous retirement
and convalescent facilities; and
WHEREAS, the annual appointment of a Youth Representative to
the SSHRB has provided an opportunity for youth to become involved
in community and civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, since convening in April, 1992, the Alameda Youth
Council has served the youth of Alameda and the City as a whole by
sponsoring a variety of activities and events and by bringing
issues of importance to the attention of the City Council, the
Alameda Unified School District Board of Education and members of
the Youth Activities Network.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Alameda commends the youth of Alameda for their time,
energy and dedication to serve our community and its residents;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Alameda recognizes youth service to our community by declaring
April 25, 1995 as Alameda Youth Service Day.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 18th day of
April , 1995, by the following vote to wit:

Mannix and President Appezzato - 5.

ABSTENTIONS: None.
