AUTHORIZING PURSUIT OF A CLEAN CITIES DESIGNATION AND
PREPARE FOR AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) MODEL CITY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, alternative fuel vehicles help reduce air and
noise pollution; and
WHEREAS, Alameda's topography, climate, and demographics
provide an environment favorable to the successful integration of
alternative fuel vehicles into the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda wishes to support and foster
usace of alternative fuel vehicles in Alameda by both citizens and
fleet operators; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda would like to foster an
alternative fuel vehicles industry at the redeveloping Alameda
Naval Air Station including the CALSTART facility; and.
WHEREAS, the City is particularly interested in electric
vehicles due to their Zero-Emission status and quiet operation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has the opportunity to take
the lead in the development of advanced transportation and clean
air technologies; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District
(BAAQMD) has earmarked funds for alternative fuel vehicles; and
WHEREAS, a Clean Cities Designation from the U.S.
Department of Energy and installation of support infrastructure for
alternative fuel vehicles will help the City of Alameda secure
grant funds from the BAAQMD for the demonstration of alternative
fuel vehicles.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that the City Manager is authorized to pursue a Clean
Cities Designation from the Department of Energy and prepare for an
Electric Vehicle (EV) Model City Program.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council
of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 7th
day of May , 1996, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, DeWitt, Lucas,
Mannix and President Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSENTENTIONS: None.
