AUTHORIZING PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO
ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH CALTRANS FOR
FERRY MARKETING GRANT FUNDS
WHEREAS, the October, 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake
resulted in the destruction of transportation infrastructure which
severely disrupted traffic from Alameda and Oakland to San
Francisco; and
WHEREAS, in response to the disruption in traffic, the
City of Alameda, in conjunction with the Port of Oakland,
Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Caltrans instituted
ferry services to San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans has agreed to fund marketing efforts
for the ferry services as an element of their Transportation
Mitigation Plan pending replacement of the Cypress Corridor; and
WHEREAS, in August, 1996, Caltrans approved the work plan
and issued a new agreement to fund ferry marketing efforts; and

WHEREAS, Grant funds, in the amount of $130,000 have been
identified for the marketing program; and
WHEREAS, the ferry service is budgeted under CIP 89-14.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Alameda that the Public Works Director or his designee is
hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Caltrans for
Ferry Marketing Grant Funds, in the form substantially similar to
the proposed agreement on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council
of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 17th
day of September , 1996, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, DeWitt and
President Appezzato - 3.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmember Lucas - 1.
ABSENTENTIONS: None.
