DESIGNATING JUNE 7 THROUGH JUNE 14
ALAMEDA HOMEOWNERSHIP WEEK
WHEREAS, in July 1996, the Council adopted a homeownership goal for the City
WHEREAS, owning a home, along with steady employment and obtaining an
education, are the main components of the "American Dream "; and
WHEREAS, these goals are what most people consider necessary for long -term
financial security and of these, homeownership generally is regarded as the most difficult to
achieve; and
WHEREAS, those who choose owning over renting consistently report that it is
worth their sacrifice and effort required to buy a home; and
WHEREAS, homeownership provides important social and economic benefits
and contributes to 'a strong economy, builds strong communities and to the individual family,
represents a powerful tool for building economic stability and self - esteem; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of National Homeownership Week is to spotlight the
extremely important, but sometimes overlooked, value homeownerships brings to society.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Alameda that June 7 through June 14 is Alameda Homeownership Week.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council
of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 2nd
day of June , 1998, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Kerr, Lucas
and President Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
