Resolution 13050CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 13050 DECLARING SUPPORT FOR PROPOSITION 10 THE CALIFORNIA CHILDREN AND FAMILIES INITIATIVE WHEREAS, children need the support of schools and educational programs in order to thrive and develop healthy self-esteem; and WHEREAS, there is a need for mass media campaigns to educate pregnant women, parents of young children, and the public on smoking related risks to children; and WHEREAS, there is a concern about increasing levels of domestic violence throughout the State, and intervention, prevention and treatment programs are needed so that our children do not continue to be victims; and WHEREAS, it is recognized that parents and child care providers are in need of education in dealing with children and their diverse and special needs and that early childhood development programs are a value to each child in the State; and WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 10 could help fund the creation or expansion of community centers to focus on parent education and family support services and provide comprehensive integrated services for preschool children including immunization, vision and hearing tests and treatment for children suffering from problems related to drug and alcohol abuse; and WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 10 could help fund additional quality child care and child development, health care, and social service programs which are not provided or are currently underfunded; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda on May 19, 1998 did commit to taking a Stand For Children and to the task of improving the quality of life for all our children from this day forward. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda, in keeping with its Stand For Children and the principle of improving the quality of life for children, youth and families in Alameda and throughout the State, and in support of a similar action taken by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, does hereby endorse Proposition 10, the California Children and Families Initiative. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Rob Reiner, Chair, and United States Senator Barbara Boxer I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 20th day of October , 1998, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Lucas and President Appezzato - 4.
