Resolution 13110CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 13110 SUPPORTING BAY TRAIL PLAN WHEREAS, the Bay Area is a special place to live, in large part because of the close inter-relationship of cities with the San Francisco Bay; and WHEREAS, in 1989 the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) adopted a plan for a biking and hiking route that would circle San Francisco Bay, providing connections to existing parks, open space and other recreation facilities and creating links to existing and proposed transportation facilities while avoiding adverse effects on the environment of the bay; and WHEREAS, the plan for this route - which became known as the Bay Trail - was developed over a two year process by an advisory committee to ABAG that included representatives from a broad range of interests, including Federal, State, regional and local government agencies, environmental and recreational organizations, private landowners and business interests; and WHEREAS, according to the plan, the Bay Trail when complete will be a continuous 400-mile hiking and biking corridor that will link all nine Bay Area counties, pass through 47 cities (including Alameda), and cross major toll bridges in the region; and WHEREAS, to date, half the ultimate length of the Bay Trail has been developed including many popular segments such as those through the Bay Farm Island shoreline parks and along Crown Memorial State Beach that provide inexpensive recreation, exercise and sightseeing opportunities; offer a transportation alternative; serve as a ',petting for environmental education and wildlife viewing; and incrase access to the outdoors, the Bay and numerous points of interet-it; and WHEREAS, to mark the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Bay Trail plan, ABAG has requested the Alameda City Council to adopt this resolution of support. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda hereby supports the Bay Trail Plan and the efforts of the public agencies, trail groups, private sector institutions, and individuals who are working through the ABAG to bring this trail into reality. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a Certified Copy of this Resolution to Mary King, ABAG President and Alameda County Supervisor. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 15th day of June , 1999, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and Acting Mayor Daysog - 4.
