SUPPORTING THE INCLUSION OF MOFFETT FIELD AS A POTENTIAL
ALTERNATIVE AIRPORT LOCATION TO BE STUDIED AS PART
OF THE REGIONAL AIRPORT SYSTEM PLAN REVISION
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Regional Airport
Planning Committee is currently reviewing and revising the Regional Airport System Plan to
determine the current and future need for additional airport capacity for the 10 and 20 year planning
window; and
WHEREAS, the current scope of work for the Regional Airport System Plan revision
includes analysis of Moffett Field as a potential alternative airport location; and
WHEREAS, the Moffett Field airport and runway facilities are grossly under- utilized
by NASA and the military; and
WHEREAS, major air cargo carriers, including Federal Express and DHL, are on
record as willing to accept restricted operations at Moffett Field.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Alameda that the City of Alameda does hereby express its strong support to having Moffett Field
included as a potential alternative airport location to be studied by the Regional Airport Planning
Committee as part of the current Regional Airport System Plan revision.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Alameda requests that the
Regional Airport Plant-ling Committee not consider removing Moffett Field from the analysis of
alternative airport locations until a full and comprehensive study on the cargo needs generated within
the South Bay and hew those needs may be best served without adding traffic or air quality impacts
to the I -880 and I-101 corridors has been completed.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on
the 21st day of September , 1999, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and
Mayor Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
